Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 8 wkts

Match report With Tiff away again, Beaver was in charge. Muston won the toss and chose to bat. Phil Marr and Max Truelove were steady away for 9 overs putting on 26 together against the pace of the Hax and the seam and swing of Beaver. Hax got the breakthrough in the 10th over when Truelove having hit the previous ball for 4 played all across a straight one and saw his middle stump knocked back. The run rate then increased as another partnership developed between Marr and Matt Atkinson in double quick time with both batsmen finding the boundary 3 times each. Having been hit for 4 the previous ball, Beaver got the next wicket in the 15th over when Atkinson lifted a sweep shot straight to Boo at square leg. The score had reached 63. Beaver struck again in his next over, the 17th, a wicket maiden. Opener Marr had been at the crease for an hour when he got a nick to a rising delivery and keeper Josh Mac took the catch. That was 66 for 3. The next partnership between Phil Robson and J McMillan yielded 29 runs. It was broken in the 27th over when Robson swiped at a straight Hax full bunger and was bowled off stump. Lawrence Webb hung around the crease for 14 minutes for his 1 run. His innings ended in the 31st over when he popped one back to the Hax, who following through dived to his right and took a low one handed catch inches from the ground. That was 102 for 5. Kyle Orange joined McMillan and together kept the score moving along nicely. After 35 overs Dave Allen took over the keeper's gloves to allow Josh Mac to bowl. His 2nd over, the 38th brought success when Orange popped one back to him and he took a much easier catch. That was 131 for 6. Jon Healy joined McMillan and together nudged and pushed singles with the odd 4 thrown in for good measure, taking the score to 165 in the 44th over. Healy mis-judged a flighted Josh Mac googly and was bowled. The Muston innings closed after the next over on 169 for 7 with McMillan still there on 44.
It was a welcome back to the fold for Dave Allen, playing his 1st match after retiring 2 years ago. Rob Lazenby was sent in to open with him, and together they did not disappoint. Steering singles and 2's for the 1st 7 overs, they took the score to 34. This was helped in no small way by bowler Truelove who in his 3 over spell bowled 2 11 ball overs and a 9 ball over. He was replaced at the pavilion end by Phil Marr, carrying on the good work by bowling a 13 ball over. The 50 partnership was reached in the 9th over, with Dallen hitting the 1st boundary of the innings. The 10th over was bowled by Webb, and Rob hit his 1st 2 balls to the square leg and cover boundaries. In the 12th over, Webb conceded 15 runs when Dallen pummelled him also to the same boundaries plus a timed cut to the 3rd man boundary. Rob took 10 runs off Orange's 3rd over, the 15th, and the score had reached 95. Rob brought up the 100 partnership in the 17th over when he hit Orange to the extra cover boundary. Unfortunately, Rob lost his concentration in the next over when he missed an Atkinson seamer and his off stump was knocked back. He had made 37 with the score on 102. Young Boo joined Dallen at the crease and settled into the task nicely pushing singles while he got his eye in. In the 20th over, he cut Atkinson to the 3rd man boundary. In the 23rd over Dallen launched into the Muston bowling. He brought up his 50 after 89 minutes at the crease, with a hit over the bowlers head to the boundary. He then followed this up with a 4 to the shed and a 6 over the hedge at deep backward square, all off Orange. He wasn't finished there. Next over, he hit Atkinson's last to the square leg, mid wicket and cover boundaries. At the other end, Boo was stroking singles and the occasional 2 with ease. The score had risen quickly to 153 after 24 overs. Truelove was brought back into the Muston attack and responded in fine style with another 9 ball over. His next over, the 27th and Boo stroked a 2 and a single to bring the score to within a boundary hit of victory. In attempting to make that winning hit, he scooped one up to Webb fielding at short cover and was out for 17. Josh Mac came in and promptly hit the next ball near to the shed boundary, and Seamer had won by 8 wickets. Dallen had carried his bat for 77 runs in 1 hour 49 minutes.
This stunning victory never looked possible before the match started with key players missing and late call ups. But the secret of a winning team's success is that when 1 player goes out, there is always another to come in and do the business. Today it was Dallen. Who could it be next week I wonder?
