Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 3 wkts

Match report Heslerton included 3 loan players from Flamborough in their 10 man team, including all rounder Luke Dixon and main bowler Harry Burton. The visitors won the toss and chose to bat. Openers Dave Vasey and Luke Dixon got off to a slow start against the fast pace of Hax and Griff, scoring 5 runs after 5 overs. Then Dixon got the board moving with boundaries through cover and to mid wicket off Griff in the 6th over, and a square drive in the 8th. Vasey was pushing the odd single as Dixon continued to dominate with another drive for 4, this time through extra cover off the Hax. After bowling a wide in the 10th over, Griff got the breakthrough when his next ball trapped Vasey in front and up went their umpire's finger. The partnership had realised 29 runs in 36 minutes. Harry Burton joined his Flamborough pal and the pair steadily got to grips with our bowling. Dixon punished Griff with boundaries to square leg and cover in the 12th. Corey replaced Griff with boundaries conceded in his 1st 3 overs, while Beaver replaced the Hax starting with a maiden. After hitting Corey to the long off boundary in the 18th over, Dixon stroked a 2 to bring up his 50 in 67 minutes. In the 20th over, Corey got the next wicket when Burton failed to connect with an offside drive and popped the ball up to Doc who took an easy catch at point. That was 74 for 2 and the 3rd Flamborough loanee Matt Emmerson joined Dixon at the crease. The left hander started by flashing at a short ball from Beaver which flew through the slip area for 4, then glanced one round his legs to the fine leg boundary. In the 24th over, he pulled Corey through mid wicket for 6, but Beaver got him next over when he dollied a drive to mid off where Doc took a regulation catch. That was 97 for 3. Dixon hit Corey to long on in the 26th over and a catch was spilled in the same position a few balls later. James Duffill then hit a boundary to point off Beaver in the following over. The Hax replaced Beaver for the 29th and with his 2nd ball, Duffill found Griff for a catch at point. 116 for 4 became 121 for 5 when Griff cleaned up Chris Dent with the last ball of the next over. Batsman Swallow then hit Hax back over his head for 4 and creamed another through cover. Dixon kept up the momentum with 2 boundaries to long on, the 2nd being another catch spilled. Dixon finally went in Hax's next, the 33rd, when he sent up a skier, and Griff running in from point took a clean catch. He had made 83 in almost 2 and a quarter hours batting, and the score had reached 145 for 6. New batsman Karl Dent then hit the Hax for 2 boundaries, 1 going through gully in the same over. Griff then tied the batsman down with 2 consecutive maidens while Swallow hit another 6 back over Hax's head. Beaver was brought back in the 37th, and cleaned Swallow up with his 1st ball. That was 164 for 7. Griff then bowled Driver in the next, and it was all over in the 39th. Karl Dent top edged Beaver for 4, then sent a rising drive to the Hax at extra cover, and he safely pouched the catch. With only 10 men, Heslerton were all out for 169, the same score as Muston last week. The Flamborough loanees had scored 112 of those runs. Griff finished with 3 for 46 off 12 overs while Beaver had 3 for 31 off nearly 9 overs.
At 5 o'clock, Heslerton came out to field, but before play could get under way, a black cloud opened up and down came the rain. After nearly 20 minutes, the covers were taken off and Corey and Dallen went out to the middle. Again, a cautious start with 5 runs scored after 5 overs. In the 6th over, Corey cut Duffill twice through gully for 4's and a square cut sweetly struck for 4. In the 9th over, Dallen found the backward point boundary after cutting Dring, and Corey played the same shot off Duffill in the next over. The partnership was broken in the 11th over when Dallen edged a cut and Driver took a smart catch at 1st slip. It had realised 36 runs. Captain Tiff joined Corey in the middle, and together picked up extra runs with quick running between the wickets. Harry Burton was brought on to bowl the 16th over and was immediately punished with Corey driving him through the covers to the shed boundary, and Tiff cutting to the gully boundary. But in Burton's next over, Corey nicked one to their keeper and was gone for 28. That was 56 for 2. Dixon replaced Dring at the pavilion end and Tiff drove him to the long off boundary. The score had moved on to 76 in the 24th over when Tiff misjudged another Burton seamer and was bowled for 19. Duffill was brought back to bowl the 25th over and Boo cut him to the 3rd man boundary off a no ball. Boo then square drove Duffill to the boundary in the 27th. The score had reached 94 in the 29th when Boo played all across a Duffill delivery and saw his stumps with the bails off. He had batted nearly 45 minutes scoring the majority of the runs in the partnership with Phil. Rob Lazenby came in and played a late cut to the 3rd man boundary, and followed up with a pull to the mid wicket boundary, both off Dixon. Tight bowling then slowed the Seamer scoring for 4 overs, before Phil hit a boundary off the recalled Dring in the 35th over. With 10 overs left, Seamer still needed another 53 runs. In Dring's next, Rob cut him through gully to the big tree for 4 and lofted a drive to the long on boundary. The 39th was Dring's last over and Phil smoked him to the shed. 32 runs were still needed off the last 6 overs. Rob had played ever so well for his 29 but off the 1st ball of the 40th over, he nicked a Dixon delivery into the keeper's gloves. That was 138 for 5, and Burton was brought back. Hax scampered a 3, and Phil smoked another boundary off Dixon in the 42nd over. With 3 overs to go 17 were still needed. 2 balls later Hax set off for a quick single, but Phil sent him back. Unfortunately, he didn't make his ground and keeper Vasey whipped off the bails for a run out. Griff came and went 3 balls later when he swiped at a Burton delivery and was cleaned up. After 43 overs the score was 157 for 7. 5 runs were scored in the 44th over, leaving 8 runs to get in the last, bowled by Burton. Phil was facing and calmly hit 3 2's into the outfield. He missed the 4th ball but drove the 5th over the long off boundary to the cheers of his team mates and the returning first teamers. A win for Seamer by 3 wickets with 1 ball to spare, and big praise for Phil keeping his cool in the final over to see us home with 40 not out. Also to opener Corey for his 28 and Rob in the middle order with 29. Their best bowler was Burton with 3 for 41 off nearly 10 overs.
So the wins keep coming; this one for 18 points. With Kirkbymoorside getting the full 20 points, they have edged us into 2nd place in the table by 2 points. The 3 Flamborough men made significant contributions for Heslerton, and without them, our job would have been made so much easier. But you have to take the rough with the smooth and get on with it........and we did just that! By a quirk of fate, we go to Flamborough next week, and meet up once again with their Heslerton boys. Lets do em again!!
