Forge Valley B v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI (Evening) on Thu 11 May 2017 at 6.15pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 75 runs

Match report 13 Valley players turned up expecting to play against us this evening. As there were a number of young players amongst them, our captain DJ decided to let 12 of them field but only 11 bat. DJ won the toss and decided to bat on this dull overcast evening.
Openers Davy G and Corey soon got into their stride confidently moving the ball around, punishing the bad balls and hitting boundaries in the opening overs. Corey started with a 4 behind square leg off Dan Tomlinson's 1st over, and with 3 wides, 10 was taken from it. Davy got stuck into Jack Wilson's 1st over hitting boundaries to long off and extra cover, and the score quickly moved to 22. Corey then swept 2 of the 1st 3 balls of the next over to long leg, but was given a life when he sent a catch to deep mid wicket which was spilled. The score at the end of the over was 33 for 0. Corey went for another big one at the start of the 4th over, this time finding Tom Varey at deep mid on taking the catch. He had made a quick 15. Davy then hit 2 more boundaries in this over, before Phil cut a shot into hands at point which was also spilled. Another good over for us and 45 for 1. Tomlinson's 3rd over was more economical with just 5 coming from it, including a 4 nicked to 3rd man by Davy. Following a wide, Phil was bowled by Wilson for 2 in the 6th over. Ady Fox's 1st ball then nipped back disturbing Bakes's stumps and we were 58 for 3. In the 8th over Anoosh drove Wilson to the long on boundary and it was 73 for 3 at the end of it. Runs were a plenty, with the ball being stroked and carted all over. Fox'x next over went for 10 including 3 wides with Anoosh finding the backward square leg boundary. But he was cleaned up a few balls later for 16 in 10 minutes of batting. That was 81 for 4. Varey bowled the 10th over, and Davy hit his 1st boundary for 6 overs to wide long on. 11 came from it and 94 for 4. Hax was confidently playing the ball all around the park for singles, and managed a drive for 4 to long on in the 11th over. Davy hit 2 more boundaries in the 12th and final over, and with 16 coming from it including Davy's 50, the score finished on 119 for 4.
Tom Varey opened with Harry Exley-Moore and the pair started to nudge the singles around the field. Helped by a few wides, and a boundary by Varey, the score had reached 19 after 3 overs. Hax was caned by Varey at the start of the 4th over with boundaries to mid wicket and cow corner. But with his next ball, Hax knocked back 2 of Varey's stumps, and the batsman was dismissed for 19 of the 27 runs on the board. Eric Hall came in, nudged a single, and a 2 in the next over before he was cleaned up, this time by DJ. Hax conceded just a wide in the 6th over and it was 32 for 2. Rob replaced DJ for the 7th and Exley-Moore drove his 1st ball to the cover boundary. But he was gone off the 2nd ball when Phil held on to a catch at deep backward point and it was 36 for 3. The Valley batsmen were now getting bogged down by our tight bowling, with just 2 singles scored off Anoosh's 1st over, the 8th. It was double delight for Rob in the 9th when he dislodged both Tomlinson's and Lickes's stumps for a wicket maiden. That was 40 for 5 and not looking good for Valley. Then Anoosh followed up with a wicket maiden, also cleaning up Mat Arnott in the 10th over. Next over, young Archie was introduced with his tweak. He conceded 3 wides but got rid of Fox after pegging him. The score was 43 for 7, and with a mountain to climb, Valley sent in one of the young Kaya twins. He managed to nick a single off the last over bowled by Tommy Greenwood, and the innings closed on 44 for 7. A resounding Seamer win by 75 runs with Rob getting 3 for 5 off 2 overs, and all our other bowlers bar one chipping in with a wicket apiece.
This was a splendid win against inexperienced opposition. It was a marvellous gesture by our captain to allow them to field with 12 men (or should I say mainly boys) which had little or no effect on the outcome of the match. Well done to Davy for carrying his bat for the 12 overs, ably backed up with quick runs from Corey, Anoosh and the Hax. Once their openers had gone, it was uphill all the way as they couldn't cope with our bowling, falling well short in the end. Our next opponents won't crumble as easily as that. Let's keep up this good work!!
