Wold Newton v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI on Sat 19 May 2018 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Lost by 67 runs

Match report Seamer won the toss and put Wold Newton in to bat on an unpredictable track on this glorious sunny day. Openers David Southwell and Karl Ridsdale put together an opening partnership worth 42 runs which ended in the 16th over when Ridsdale cut Beaver straight to Connor at point for 21. During this period, DJ's figures were 7 overs 5 maidens 0 for 10. Charlie Gray joined Southwell and this pair put together a partnership of 84 runs which ended when left hander Southwell turned Archie round his legs to Collo at short fine leg for a simple catch. He had made 41 and given a couple of decent chances in his stay of 2 hours 13 minutes at the crease. Next to go when the score had reached 153 was Callum Morley, a loan player from Nafferton. He was on 5 in the 40th over when he mis hit a drive to Tuna running forward at mid wicket for a good juggling catch. Just prior to this, Gray had brought up his 50 with a hit to cow corner. It had taken him 1 hour 33 minutes. Brother Will Gray departed next over when the returning DJ trapped him leg before for just 2, and the score on 156 for 4. Charlie Gray eventually holed out to a spectacular catch again by Tuna on the mid wicket boundary making 60 runs. There was a late blast of 22 runs in 2 and a half overs from the bat of Kop Harrison before the innings closed on 192 for 5. 21 byes had been conceded in a total of 40 extras from our fielding.
In reply, Seamer got off to the worst possible start when Captain Dazzler was bowled off James Knaggs's last delivery in the 1st over, the ball just clipping the top of the bail. Dallen also went for nought when Knaggs broke his stumps in the 3rd over and it was 1 for 2. Connor clipped Knaggs for 2 successive boundaries before he too was bowled, this time by Captain Mark Holtby with his slow cutters from the pavilion end. However Aussie Sam Collo was making a stand and getting stuck into their bowling with a succession of boundaries and 6's. He was helped somewhat by Boo making a good account of himself on his 1st Saturday outing with the 2nds. The pair rescued the situation with a stand of 67, and Boo's contribution in this was 3 boundaries. Collo's cavalier innings ended on 55 when he holed out to Will Gray at mid wicket off brother Chris's bowling in the 23rd over. So that was 87 for 4. After scoring a single, young Tommy was comprehensively bowled by Kop Harrison 3 overs later with the score on 96. Then Tuna was run out by Stu Harrison's throw from mid wicket for 0 the over after that. Boo's patient 78 minute innings ended 2 more overs later, the 29th, when Gray pegged him for 23 with an inswinger, and 3 wickets had fallen for no runs. Archie was then similarly pegged by Gray for a single in the 31st, and 98 for 8. Beaver joined DJ in the middle and the pair punched 5 boundaries between them to take the score to 125, before DJ succumbed to young Morley for 17. 4 deliveries later it was all over for Seamer as young Matty's pegs were disturbed by Morley, and another defeat, this time by 67 runs.
The inquest started soon afterwards. It was obvious the fielding today was poor. Apart from 2 good catches by Tuna, several other catching chances were spurned, and with all those byes and 9 wides, it all added up to a bad day at the office. DJ acquitted himself well with bat and ball, and Collo and Boo got us out of the mire, but the other batsmen got out before they could get in. We need to apply ourselves better next week, and we could do with some fresh faces, so come on boys - heads on!! UTS!!
