Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Hospitals on Sat 05 May 2012 at 2pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 63 runs

Match report Following a wash-out the previous week, it was a relief to finally get some decent weather. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Seamer made a nervous start, losing Dave Plowes in the third over. This brought a resurgent Nige Moore to the crease, who bludgeoned his way to a typically hard-hitting 70 as he and Gary Lawton put on 47 for the second wicket. After Lawton was caught at slip in the 14th over attempting an ambitious late cut, Andy Ward strode to the crease and began to accumulate runs in accomplished fashion. Moore's departure in the 26th over brought the reliable Dave Lunn to the crease, and he and Ward set about demolishing a flagging Hospitals attack. The pair added 110 for the 4th wicket in a stand that all but assured the victory for Seamer. Ward was particularly brutal to Hospitals slow bowlers Tim Elliott and Pete Milner, launching each for gargantuan sixes over long-on. Lunn eventually fell for a well-made 42; Ward was then ably supported by Matty Morris at the end of the innings as Seamer closed on 250 for 6.

Hospitals began their innings confidently enough, until the breakthrough was made by Chris Brame in the 8th over as he trapped Simon Smith lbw, much to the batsman's chagrin. Confusion abounded in the 12th over as Brame, bowling with good pace and hostility, crashed the ball into the helmet of Hospitals number three Dave Collins with an aggressive short-pitched delivery. Collins, confused and potentially concussed, was called through for a quick run by his batting partner Gez Wardell. This kamikaze running proved catastrophic for Collins, who was run out by a well-directed throw from Gary Lawton. Collins staggered off the field a broken man, incredulous at the ill-judgement of his team-mate. Wardell received his come-uppance two overs later however, when he was clean bowled by a Brame yorker. With Chris Helm and Marcus Edwards at the crease, Hospitals began to regroup. The pair batted sensibly as they put on a stand of 96 for the 4th wicket. Seamer nerves were calmed when Helm was bowled by a pacy Lawton delivery, and the game was effectively sewn-up by Seamer when club stalwart Steve Winwood bowled Edwards, who made an aggressive 70. Wickets then tumbled regularly, and Hospitals' end came swiftly as the pace of Lawton and the spin of Matty Morris proved too much for the lower order batsmen.
