Wykeham 2nds v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI on Sat 11 Jul 2015 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Wykeham batting first got off to a slow start scoring just 2 runs off the first 6 overs bowled by Bev and DJ. In the 8th over, Andy Shep was bowled by DJ but once Tom Poor had joined Corcoran at the crease, the run rate started to increase. The score had reached 28 in the 13th over when Poor hit a shot to mid wicket, but an alert Dicko running forward picked up the ball threw straight to Bakes and Corcoran was on his way back to the pavilion. Ali Caw replaced Bev at the pavilion end and reaped double delight at the start of his 2nd over when he brilliantly held on to a Poor drive then bowled Ian Johnson with his next delivery. The score at that stage had reached 49 in the 21st over, and in the next young Toby Wrightson was bowled by DJ for a single. Scott Wardman was looking solid and together with David Stockill built a 31 run partnership before Connor took a midfield catch to dismiss the latter off Lord Brame who had been introduced into the attack. Skipper Ian Thompson joined Wardman and together built a 50 run partnership to the 42nd over before Wardman was bowled by Dabbs for 62, with the score on 133 for 7. A brief cameo of an innings by no.10 Steve Day saw him hit 14 runs off 5 Bev deliveries, and the captain was bowled by Bev off the last ball of the innings for 16, leaving his team 9 down for 161.
Not for the first time this season, Lord Brame was sent in to stifle the opposition attack, but walked in front of a Stockill delivery at the start of the 6th over. Bakes was settling in nicely, and together with partner Ali forced the issue with a series of quick singles and doubles until Ali was caught in the outfield with the score on 30. Shortly afterwards, Dicko scooped a Day chinaman straight to Tom Poor at cover. Connor joined Bakes and the pair dug in moving the score along with some quickly run singles and doubles, interspersed with an occasional boundary or two. Connor smashed a huge 6 to cow corner off a slow Thompson legger in the 25th over, and when he was finally caught out in the 32nd over for 37, the pair had put on 71 runs. Dabbs went in and immediately set about keeping his end up, but 2 overs later Bakes hit a boundary to bring up his 50 and was cleaned up 2 balls later by young Wrightson without addition to his score. He had been at the wicket for 110 minutes and had hit 8 fours. Bev came in and kept the score moving, but Dabbs had been in 8 overs for 7 runs and was now getting barracked from the pavilion. He responded promptly and hit 3 boundaries to leave Seamer needing 9 runs to win from 2 overs. 1st ball of the 44th over from slow bowler Day and Bev went for a big one and was caught in the deep for 16. DJ wasted no time and off his 3rd ball faced hit a straight 6 over the fence at long on which took the fielders a good 5 minutes to find in the dense undergrowth. 2 runs were needed off the final over and DJ duly obliged off the 2nd ball, leaving Dabbs unbeaten on 21 and the Wykeham fielders utterly dejected.
Seamer with only 10 men won this match through sheer grit and determination. The efforts of our batsmen were second to none in chasing down the opposition score. It was sweet revenge for our heavy defeat a week earlier by the same team.
