Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Muston on Sat 25 Jul 2015 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Lost by 142 runs

Match report Muston won the toss and elected to bat. But they were soon in trouble when opener Truelove was bowled for a duck in Jaimie Griffin’s 2nd over. Phil Marr dug in and started to pepper the boundary ropes, but his partner Dave Meer the short policeman was brilliantly run out by Gaz Walters at mid wicket with the score on 36. Matty Kings joined Marr in the middle and proceeded to up the run scoring tempo. He hit a huge 6 off a Griff no ball into the ploughed field over the tall hedge. In the next over, the 16th, bowled by Connor, Marr holed out to Lord Brame with the score on 66. He had scored 45 of those runs himself. Skipper Robson and Kings then set about the Seamer bowling scoring 40 runs in a little over 6 overs. Lord Brame replaced Connor at the village end and with his 8th ball took Robson’s off peg. Doctor’s “pies” had had little success after 4 overs, but he reaped double delight with his next 2 deliveries. With the score on 134, Kings who had been batting for 74 minutes failed to spot Doc’s “wrong un” and holed out to Connor on the square leg boundary. Ian Norris on a “king pair” after the earlier match at Muston wafted at an offside delivery and was caught in the slips by Tiff. J Tadman and Pratt were moving things nicely and took the score to 181 where the latter played a loose shot and skied a catch to Connor in the wide mid on area. 2 runs later in the next over, Tadman followed him when Connor took his middle peg. And in the next over Joe Atkinson’s stumps were shattered by Griff. The last pair, Webb and "Bokka" Anderson then put together a partnership of 26 runs nudging singles, and both had reached 10 when Connor pouched another chance, this time off Lord Brame, and Muston were all out for a very respectable 212.
Seamer opened up with Griff and Ian “Horlicks” Hall who was making his 1st start for over 2 years. Muston started with their “A team” Messrs Atkinson and Anderson. Griff didn’t last long hitting a 2 and a 4 before being bowled by Atkinson in the 3rd over. Despite a brief flurry of boundaries, Horlicks had made 16 when he holed out to Steve Pratt in the deep in the 5th over, with the score on 24. Graham Colley was promoted in order to carry out his bar duties, and hung around for 16 minutes before succumbing to yet another accurate Atkinson delivery. Lord Brame went the same way after resisting for 22 minutes for 1 run in Atkinson’s next over and the score was 31 for 4. It didn’t get any better as Dicko and Connor both fell to Kings catches off Anderson, and Gaz Walters was cleaned up by the same bowler. Seamer were in a sorry state at 45 for 7. Tiff and Doctor Lawty came together, both hitting a couple of boundaries, and moved the score along to 69 before both being bowled. 1 more run was added and Seamer were all out for 70, their lowest score of the season, and Muston’s “A team” doing all the damage with 5 wickets apiece.
This was a disasterous result for our boys who were soundly beaten by a strong Muston side, though it didn’t help with 6 changes from the team that admirably won at Wykeham two weeks previous. The trouble was……..our batsmen were playing risky shots that weren’t there to be played, and ultimately paid the price. Lessons to be learned I think!
