Ryedale v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI on Sat 01 Aug 2015 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 50 runs

Match report Seamer batted first and lost wickets regularly to the Ryedale pace attack and were reduced to 56-5 after 14 overs. The innings was held together by young opener Corey Towell who played some nice strokes in his excellent knock of 51, and formed a solid 6th wicket partnership of 47 with Rory Skelton. After the rain interruptions and early tea interval, Rory continued his good form and together with Doctor Lawty, the pair put together an unbroken 9th wicket partnership of 36 to give Seamer a very respectable 156 runs after a rain reduced 39 overs, and 3 valuable batting points. Rory finishing 4 short of a well deserved half century.
Ryedale started slowly and fell behind the required scoring rate thanks largely to the spin of Dabs. Connor took a good catch in the deep to dismiss ex Scarborough batsman Hugill, and opener Cowton fell to a mid wicket catch by outfielder Rory. When Corey bowled Balderson in the 20th over, Ryedale were 56-3 and slipping further behind the required rate. The turning point in the match came in the 25th over when keeper Bakes was asked to bowl and Rory took the gloves. With his 2nd ball he caught young opener Sam Batty who had compiled a patient 41 and two balls later clean bowled J Newton for a duck. In his next over he had Edmond caught behind and Temple sharply caught by Doctor in the gully. Dabs got in the act next over trapping Kinghorn lbw. Ryedale had slumped from 76-3 to 89-8. After stubborn resistance from the tail, Bakes wrapped it up taking a low forward diving catch off his own bowling, and Ryedale were 50 runs short with their keeper having gone home.
This was a remarkable victory with only 10 men, some of whom were playing for the first time in two years. Bakes finished the match with amazing figures of 5 for 18 off 4 overs and promptly showed the match ball to the lingering sparse crowd of onlookers. Dabs also deserves praise for his 2 for 26 off 10 overs, Connor bowled well conceding just 3 runs per over from his 12, and the all round promise of young Corey will probably be realised in the first team in the remaining weeks of the season. The key to this match was batting out the overs, bowling and fielding tightly. Well done lads !!
