Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Great Habton on Sat 15 Aug 2015 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 59 runs

Match report Habton won the toss & put Seamer in to bat. This looked to be a good decision when Tiff was bowled in the 3rd over without a run on the board. However Neil Mattimoe joined Bakes at the crease and the pair set about turning things around. A varied succession of powerful strokes particularly through the offside by Bakes and some accurate sweeps to long leg by Neil brought up the 50 partnership in the 13th over. The scoring rate dropped slightly due to the efforts of spinner Tom Richardson, but Bakes reached his 50 with a powerful 6 to long off off George Lumley. The 100 partnership was brought up in the 23rd over, and when Neil was out in the 27th over for 38, the partnership had put on 115 runs. Stewart Davies joined Bakes and kept his end up while Bakes was bludgeoning the Habton attack to all parts of the ground. When Stew was caught for 6 in the 34th over, the score had moved on to 157. Matty Morris came & went, and Bakes brought up his ton with an off drive to the boundary.
Habton brought back their destroyer in chief Liam Appleby who had snaffled up 6 of our lads for 22 at their place. This immediately paid dividends when Bakes was bowled for a fabulous 108. It had taken him 133 minutes and included 4 sixes and 16 fours. A succession of Seamer batsmen then came and went and the innings was rounded off by Gaz Walters with a sweetly timed 6 to cow corner. The final score was 181 and amazingly the last 7 wickets had fallen for 24 runs thanks to young Appleby with another 5 for 20.
Habton got off to a bad start when their captain John Lumley was caught behind by Bakes off Bev for 5 in the 2nd over. Tight bowling by openers Matty Morris and Bev kept the score down below the asking rate. With the score on 20, Matty had Ebberston loanee Doug Bentley pouched by Lord Brame at mid on, before work committments forced him to leave the field at 5.30 having bowled economically with 1 for 9 off 6 overs. Robin Richardson and Will Curtis practically doubled the score before both fell in successive balls to catches in the deep by Neil and Tiff off Bev seamers. At this point, Habton had been reduced to 39 for 4, but attacking play from Steve Hall and Sam Davies took the score to 94 in the 32nd over. The partnership was broken by Connor when he bowled Davies for 18 and in the next over Dabbs took a low stooping catch at mid wicket off Lord Brame to get rid of Hall for 33. Habton were back in the hunt for runs but Connor looking for an extra bowler turned to Tiff who had hardly bowled all season. This was evident when he conceded 14 runs off his first over, a 9 baller. However the gloom was lifted in his next over when he had Liam Appleby smartly stumped by Bakes and Bulmer bowled 2 legal balls later. George Lumley had hung around the crease for 24 minutes when he finally succumbed to a loose Tiff delivery and was bowled for just 2 runs. The Habton innings was brought to a close 5 balls later when he bowled young Tom Richardson for nought. Tiff had finished with fine figures of 4 for 21.
This was an excellent win against a Habton team challenging for promotion honours. A match winning batting partnership between Bakes and Neil M set the tone, and again tight bowling especially from Matty, Bev and Connor, and fielding with some smart catches thrown in for good measure. Can Seamer keep this mini run going heading in to the final 2 matches against 2 more promotion hunting teams? Onwards and upwards!!
