Ebberston 2nds v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI on Sat 22 Aug 2015 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Lost by 100 runs

Match report Ebberston won the toss and elected to bat on a dry firm wicket. Disaster for Seamer in the 1st over when Neil Mattimoe in chasing a ball to the boundary went over and pulled his hamstring. He had to be lifted off the field by his team-mates. Steady progress was made by the batsmen but in the 6th over and 22 runs on the board, Alex Machin chanced his arm and skied one which Dabbs gratefully took off his own bowling. Mike Horsley joined Doug Bentley and together kept the score ticking along nicely. Bentley playing against Seamer for the 2nd consecutive Saturday had anchored in but with the score on 53, chipped a shot straight to Tiff at mid wicket in Corey’s 3rd over. Jason Oakley wasted no time setting about the Seamer bowling quickly reaching 15 before he nicked a rising Corey delivey into keeper Bakes’s gloves with the score on 88. S Woodhead followed him back to the pavilion when he was trapped lbw off Corey’s next ball. Horsley was finding the boundary with regularity, but at the other end Jonny Metcalfe was cleaned up by a Lord Brame straight one. Joe Tyson came in and wasted no time planting a Dabbs googly straight over long on into the children’s playground. But in the next over with the score on 117, Horsley who had been batting sensibly misjudged another Lord Bramer and was trapped lbw 4 short of his 50. And in the next over, T Holmes failed to spot Dabbs’s “wrong un” and again the umpire put his finger up. J Waters and Tyson quickly developed a partnership taking the score to 153, but when Tiff came on to bowl in the 39th over, he got rid of both in the space of 4 balls. Tyson tried another big hit but was caught at long off by Bev, then Waters stepped in front and the umpire said yes. Two overs later Ebberston were all out for 169 when their umpire adjudged Chris Beal to have feathered a tickle to keeper Bakes, but he was not happy and stood his ground in defiance.
In reply, Seamer got off to the worst possible start when last weeks centurion Bakes was caught at 2nd slip for a duck after the ball rebounded off 1st slip’s hands. Next over and Dicko edged a Pickering short delivery straight to 1st slip. Dabbs dug in but after some quick runs, Corey misjudged a Holmes delivery and his stumps were broken. That was 12 for 3 after 8 overs. The signs were not looking good, but Dabbs and Tiff set about rectifying the situation adding 27 runs together in 12 overs. However Woodhead came on to bowl and Dabbs played inside a straight one and was bowled. Tiff kept the score moving adding 21 runs with Gaz Walters until the 21st over when Gaz mistimed a hit and dollied a simple catch straight back to Horsley the bowler. That was 60 for 5. It was all over as a contest when Doctor, Lord Brame and Tony Singh were all clean bowled by Horsley, and with Neil M resting his leg somewhere back in Seamer, it was 69 all out and a losing margin of 100 runs.
From recent matches, 169 was a gettable score on that wicket, but when you lose your first 3 batsmen very quickly, you are on the back foot and it’s an uphill struggle. Congratulations go to Ebberston who with the 18 points they gained from this match have won the league. Can Seamer make a better fist of it going into the last match against the team currently lying in 2nd position?
