Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Flamborough on Sat 29 Aug 2015 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 95 runs

Match report Seamer won the toss and elected to bat on a Davy G special wicket. Runs came quickly from the bats of Dicko and Bakes after the 1st couple of overs, but in the 6th with the score on 26, Dicko lobbed one straight down the throat of their captain Garcia at deep mid off for 15. But Bakes wasted no time and smashed a huge 6 straight past the scorebox in the same over, which was retrieved from the bushes adjacent to the old 3rds changing hut. Unfortunately the scoring rate dropped after this, and Corey steered a cut into backward point which was spilled. Bakes picked it up again hitting 11 and 11 off 2 consecutive Rob Moyes overs including a straight 6 to the right of the swings. However, in the 18th over the partnership had realised 43 when Corey nicked a catch to their keeper for 5. Joe Tiff joined Bakes at the crease, and after early caution, the pair set about the Flamborough bowling. Bakes reached 50 with his 7th boundary which went to the legside. Tiff was giving excellent support and the pair continued to dominate stroking shots all round the ground. Bowler Harry Burton came back for a 2nd spell in the 37th over and Bakes reached his ton with a misfield for 3. He had been at the wicket for 2 and a half hours. Singles were being easily pushed by both batsmen, and the 2nd and 3rd change bowlers were particularly punished with a flurry of boundaries. Tiff reached his 50 with a pushed single, and the pair played out the remaining overs finishing with an unbroken partnership worth 138 runs. The final score was 207 and Bakes had carried his bat for 120 runs in almost 3 hours. Tiff finished with 59.
In reply, Flamborough got off to a shaky start when their prolific left hander Andy Dixon got a touch into Bakes’ gloves off a rising delivery in Connor's 2nd over with 7 of the 9 runs on the board. Harry Burton started cautiously whilst Luke Dixon was scoring freely. Bev was bowling tidily and in the 8th over he claimed the 1st of his 3 wickets. Burton played a cover drive and Gaz Walters brilliantly dived forward holding on to the catch mere centimetres from the grass. That was 26 for 2, and it got worse for the opposition 2 Bev overs later, the 12th of the innings, when first Luke Dixon copied his dad tickling one behind for 16, then Harvey was clean bowled 5 balls later for a quick 13. That was 48 for 4. Then 3 maidens were played out before captain Garcia also found the edge into Bakes’ gloves off Corey’s 1st over. That was 52 for 5. Emmerson and Mel Dixon then came together and stabilised the innings moving the score slowly towards respectability. Bev had bowled 11 tidy overs for 22 but conceded 8 runs off his 12th. Dabbs replaced him at the village end and started with a maiden. Tiff then came on to bowl at the pavilion end and got rid of Emmerson from his 7th ball when the left hander tapped one straight to Dabbs in the gully. Next over and with the 1st 2 balls, Dabbs reaped double delight when he got rid of 2 members of the Moyes family. Rob was out of his ground when Bakes whipped the bails off, and young brother Graham fed Corey with a simple catch at mid wicket. All 3 wickets had fallen in 3 balls with the score on 86. Tiff was giving nothing away and in the 33rd over, his 4th, he rounded a maiden off with the wicket of Mel Dixon. Usually batting at 3 or 4, Andy’s brother had hung around for an hour when he decided to lob one up straight into the willing hands of Cameron at mid on for 11. That was 94 for 9. Danny Moyes then launched a brief attack hitting a couple of boundaries and a mighty 6 off Tiff, before Bakes snaffled up another tickle from last man England and Flamborough were all out for 112 in the 39th over.
This was another gutsy performance from Seamer with 10 men after the previous week’s disappointment. Bakes was overwhelmingly named man of the match for his ton, 4 catches and a stumping, and credit too to Tiff for his faultless knock which helped lay the foundations for the win. All the bowlers bowled well with particular mention for Bev with 3 for 30 from 12 overs and Dabbs 2 for 6 from 4 overs. Tiff capped a fine all round display with figures of 3 for 10 from 6.1 overs. Unusually there were 8 catches taken by our boys which shows that catches do ultimately win matches.
Seamer finish in a creditable 5th position in the league, only 1 point behind 4th placed Muston. All the league wins have been by big margins, which mean that with a settled side, we are a match for any team in this league. Everybody in the team is playing for each other. The win prevented Flamborough from gaining the points needed to secure automatic promotion, and that honour went to Great Habton. It’s been a good season. The fine tin is chocca full, and the lads will assemble for a boozy do in September. Roll on next May!
