Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Kirkbymoorside on Sat 07 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 105 runs

Match report Seamer won the toss and elected to bat. This looked to be a good decision as openers Dazzler and Corey made a progressive start and reached 56 after 11 overs. Dazzler was peppering the boundary at regular intervals and in the 15th over hit a huge 6 over square leg way into the ploughed field. Corey was going well at the other end, but the partnership was broken in the next over when he mis-timed a hit straight down the throat of mid wicket for 22 with the score on 71. 2 overs later and Dazzler was on his way to the pavilion for 43 runs after feathering a tickle to their keeper off Howard Mudd, and the score was 79. New signing from Scalby Josh Lowe was keeping the score moving in his first knock for the club, and was joined at the crease by captain Tiff. After both batsmen had got their eye in, the score was moving along nicely, and reached 100 in the 23rd over. The tempo increased as Tiff found the boundary regularly and young Josh was playing an excellent supporting role keeping his end moving. As the pair found the gaps, the running between the wickets was very good with lots of 2's and a good number of 3's. Tiff took a minute shy of an hour to reach his 50 while Josh was in his thirties. Then the pair began to take the Kirky bowling apart and Josh brought up his 50 in the 41st over after an hour and a half at the wicket. This was quickly followed by Tiff's ton which had taken just 87 minutes. The pair could not be dislodged and took the score to an impressive 273 after the full 45 overs with the partnership realising 194 runs. What a debut by Josh and a captain's innings by Tiff. Well done lads!!
Kirkbymoorside came out after the tea interval determined to make a go of it despite having only 10 men. Openers Charlton and Thompson were up with the clock after 10 overs hitting a succession of boundaries, but in the next over with the score on 43, Beaver got Charlton to nudge a simple catch to Corey in the 3rd slip position. He had scored 34 of the runs with 7 boundaries. Dowson came and went, cleaned up by Beaver. Thompson and Blacklock dug in and doubled the score to 89, when the latter was completely deceived by a straight Connor delivery and his stumps were shattered. In the next over, the 24th, Corey put one on the spot and Thackray was gone for 2. 3 overs later it was 99 for 5 as Josh McNeil deceived Harper with his "wrong 'un". Howard Mudd came in and showed all his experience in defending his wicket and picking off the bad balls, and together with opener Thompson put together a partnership of 29 runs in 8 overs. Unfortunately he clipped a ball round his legs to Ali Caw, set off to run and was run out by Ali's accurate throw into keeper Dazzler's gloves. That was 128 for 6. Young batsman Carter fell 4 overs later when he skied an arm ball from Josh McNeil, who then ran round to the extra cover position to pouch the catch himself. Now it seemed to be only a matter of time before the final wickets fell. However, no 9 batsmen Underwood had other ideas and launched himself into the Seamer bowling with 19 runs in just 10 minutes, including a mighty 6 over long on. Unfortunately, he didn't connect with a Bareoo delivery and Ali pouched a simple catch at mid on. That was 167 for 8, and with only 10 men, it was all over in the next when Ali cleaned up last man Barber without troubling the scorers. Praise must go to opener Thompson who carried his bat through 2 and a half hours of Kirkby's innings finishing with a creditable 71 not out.
This was a spectacular victory against last season's DVL champions who were expected to do well in this division, and who had scored 200 plus runs in their opening match last week. The foundations for Seamer's success were laid by 2 excellent batting partnerships. Captain Tiff led the way with the bat, and regularly gee'd up the lads in the field, and clever use of switching round the bowling towards the latter stage of the opposition innings. A great win which sets us up nicely for our travels to Ryedale next Saturday.
