Ryedale v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI on Sat 14 May 2016 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 8 wkts

Match report Ryedale won the toss and chose to bat on a wicket with variable bounce. Opening bowler DJ was soon in his stride and struck in his 3rd over when Steve Temple was beaten for pace with the score on 10. The batsmen were starting to dig in and both found the short far side boundary. Opener Chris Hugill the former Pickering and Scarborough stalwart was standing firm and survived a number of close lbw appeals, but in the 10th over his partner, young Harland solidly drove a Beaver seamer straight to Ben Render at mid off, and the bowls champion playing his 1st game for a number of years pouched it like a professional. That was 27 for 2. The batsmen were finding it difficult to score runs, with 2 runs being added in 4 overs. Then Beaver got another one to move off the seam and James Newton was on his way back to the pavilion. Hugill was stroking and nudging singles and 2's with ease. Corey replaced Beaver in the 18th over, and reaped immediate success when he bowled young Mark Gibson for 5 with the score on 43. Next over and it was double delight for the young seamer as the experienced John Kinghorn nudged one into the safe hands of Dave Graham at slip, then 2 legal balls later Edmond steered one straight to Ali Caw in the gully. That was 46 for 6. Ali then came on to bowl tidily, and with the 1st ball of his 3rd over, the 23rd of the innings, got rid of opener Hugill when the ball clipped the top of his bail. He had hung around for an hour and 10 minutes for a patient 19 runs. That was 49 for 7. In the next over and it was double delight again for Corey as both Shepherd and young Hodgson were beaten for swing in successive balls. At 50 for 9 it was all over bar the shouting but the last wicket pairing hung around for 5 overs taking the score to 61 before captain Graham Newton lifted Ben Render's 4th ball straight to Phil Metcalfe at mid on. A fine all round bowling performance with Corey claiming a 5 for and the match ball, and following on from a similar feat by Bakes last season on the same ground.
After tea, openers Josh Lowe and Phil Metcalfe settled into the task and upped the tempo in the 5th and 6th overs. Josh drove a couple to the boundary and Phil hit the hedge with a cover drive for 6. The score had moved rapidly on from 6 to 28. Unfortunately in the 7th over, Phil misjudged an Edmond seamer and was bowled for 14. Dave Graham joined Josh and the pair kept the score ticking over quite nicely with singles and punishing the bad ball for 4. However in the 11th over with the score on 46, Dave was adjudged by umpire Beaver to have nicked an Edmond seamer into the keeper's gloves. Clearly he was not happy and showed his displeasure as he walked from the wicket. That brought Captain Tiff to the wicket, and the pair continued where they left off last Saturday stroking the singles and doubles. The target of 62 was reached in less than 5 overs with the winning run coming from a wide ball. Josh remaining unbeaten on 19.
Another fine all round team performance, with all bowlers bowling creditably well and backed up with good fielding and catches taken. The batsmen rarely broke sweat and eased to their target in just over a 3rd of the allotted overs. Man of the match must go to Corey for his splendid 5 for. No game next week lads! What are we going to do?
