Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI (Evening) v Scarborough on Thu 30 Jun 2016 at 6.15pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report Scarborough won the toss and put Seamer in to bat. Openers Davy G and Corey started cautiously for the 1st 2 overs against the fast pace of African Rich Ngava and David Snowball pushing singles to score 7 runs aided by 3 wides. In the 3rd over, Davy found the cover boundary, took a single and watched helplessly as Corey's stumps were shattered off the last ball, with the score on 14. Davy then continued in fine style in the 4th over stroking Snowball to the cover boundary twice plus a 2. Unfortunately in the 5th, he flashed at a short offside delivery from Ngava and was caught at point for 17 runs. That was 25 for 2. Ben Rowe came on to bowl spin in the 6th over and started with a wide before Dallen found the boundary. 2 balls later and Phil hit a 6 over long on to take the score to 40. In the 8th over, Phil hit Rowe for another boundary, but the partnership with Dallen worth 27 runs was broken next over when Phil drove a rising shot off Lewis Brearley to Ngava at mid off for 15. Brearley's next over, the 11th was a mixed bag. After bowling a wide, Dallen found the boundary again, then he too drove to Ngava at mid off for a similar dismissal for 18 runs. That was 64 for 4. Before the end of the over, Boo found the mid wicket boundary and stroked a 2. The 12th over was bowled by Brad Milburn, and Captain Bakes went for his seamers with gusto. He hit the 3rd ball for 6 on to the bench in front of the scorebox, and followed up with boundary hits to the shed and mid wicket, plus a couple of 2's. But off the last ball, he went for another big one and was cleaned up. He had taken the score to 89 for 5. At the start of the last over bowled by the recalled Snowball, Boo nicked one to their keeper, then the Hax came in. He blasted 15 runs off the last 5 deliveries, 4 2 4 4 1 taking the score to 106 for 6 after the allotted 13 overs.
The sky was overcast and it was spitting with rain as the Scarborough openers went out to bat. Jimmy G ran in from the village end bowling a wide with his 2nd ball. Batsman Roberts stroked a 2 off his 3rd ball, but got a little nick off his 4th and keeper Bakes went up for the catch. 4 for 1 at the end of the over. 1st team captain Ben Elvidge then hit Hax's 2nd ball to the boundary and 1 more run was added that over. Elvidge then hit boundaries off the 2nd and 3rd balls of Jimmy's next over. A single and a wide followed, then Foster hit his 1st 2 runs before being decieved by a flighted inswinger. At that point, the rain was coming down heavy and our fielders went for the covers. The score had reached 21 for 2 after just 3 overs. Our groundsman decided in his infinite wisdom to cover this Saturday's wicket, and leave the wicket they had been playing on to the elements. Match abandoned!
