Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI (Evening) v Flamborough on Fri 20 May 2016 at 6.15pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 41 runs

Match report Seamer won the toss and elected to bat. Josh McNeil was bowled by Burton's 2nd ball. Corey was joined at the crease by Phil Metcalfe who wasted no time in driving Emmerson's 4th ball to the boundary and planting his next from an exquisite cover drive into the ploughed field. After pushing a few singles, Corey got in on the act hitting Emmerson in his next over to the long leg boundary. The score had reached 31 in the 5th over when Phil was given out lbw by umpire Doc off Burton for a quick fire 15. 2 balls later and Bareoo was cleaned up by the same bowler. Corey was stroking singles and doubles with ease, and his partnership with Jamie Haxby realised 13 runs until the latter misjudged a Burton off cutter and was bowled. Captain Tiff didn't last long and Sewerby Saturday bowler Gunning took his off stump. Young Cameron came to the wicket and showed great maturity in dealing with the fast pace of Dixon and Gunning, calmly nudging singles until he had settled in. Corey at the other end was going great guns stroking and hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. Runs were coming thick and fast, and having nudged a Dixon seamer round his legs to the boundary, Cameron's score was helped along in the 13th over by a wild throw from the legside outfield which crossed the offside boundary for a rare 5 runs. The pair had put on 57 runs when Cameron was bowled by the re-called Burton for a well constructed 27 in the penultimate over. 2 balls later Ali Caw saw his middle stump knocked back and it was 102 for 7. Corey hit the 1st ball of Leeson's last over to the boundary, but the bowler got his revenge when he cleaned Corey up with his 4th ball. Our young all rounder had just failed to carry his bat, and 2 runs short of his 50 had laid the foundations for a competetive team score of 109 for the loss of 8 wickets, 7 of which had been bowled. Harry Burton for the visitors finished with a creditable 5 for 18 from his 5 overs.
Seamer took to the field in overcast skies. Opener Harvey flashed at one of Ali Caw's seamers in the 1st over and found the fine leg boundary. Unfortunately he tried the same thing at Beaver and sent the ball skywards. Our veteran bowler made no mistake in pouching the catch after what seemed like ages waiting under it. Ali conceded 8 runs in his next over but got his revenge when Luke Dixon tickled his last ball to keeper Josh, with the score on 19. No 3 Gunning was scoring freely while partner Burton was holding his end up. In the 7th over, the score had reached 34 when Ali enticed Burton into hitting the ball up in the offside and Jamie Haxby running round at cover held on to the catch. Saturday opener Andy Dixon was nudging singles, and Gunning was hitting boundaries and two's. DJ entered the attack in the 9th over and with his 1st ball enticed left hander Dixon into a nick behind to keeper Josh once again. In the next over bowled by Jamie Haxby, the batsmen tried another quick single and Corey running in from mid wicket swooped down, shied at the stumps and his accurate throw ran out Gunning who had compiled 26 runs in 30 minutes. That was 53 for 5, and the skies were getting darker. DJ and Hax were bowling at full pace making it harder to see the ball in the gathering gloom. 9 runs were added in 4 overs and batsman Waud flashed at another DJ ball and Doc Lawty took a sharp catch in the gully. It was all over bar the shouting, but the rain came and the batsmen were making little attempt to score runs. Hax cleaned up Leeson and DJ did the same to Mel Dixon in the 15th over. The match petered out with the players leaving in the pouring rain after 18 overs, and Flamborough had finished on 68 for 8.
Another well deserved win for our Seamer lads. The 6th wicket partnership between Corey and Cameron was instrumental in laying the foundations for the win. DJ was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 6 off 5 overs, and that included 3 wides. I think Flamborough will make a better fist of it in X weeks time when they again visit us in another cup competition.
