Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Flamborough on Fri 10 Jun 2016 at 6.15pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 9 wkts

Match report On a gloomy, dull and overcast evening, Flamborough won the toss and elected to bat. Luke Dixon and Harry Burton opened for them against the fast pace of Albert Ali and the swing of Beaver. Luke took 3 off Ali's 1st over while Beaver bowled a maiden. The batsmen continued their cautious start and were 14 after 5 overs. Then they upped the tempo taking 9 off Beaver's 3rd over and 10 off Corey's 1st. Luke then laid into Beaver's 4th taking 9 more runs including a 6 over the mid wicket hedge, and helped by no balls and a wide, it was looking ominous for our team. Corey got the all important breakthrough with the 2nd ball of his 3rd over when Harry Burton tried to carve him over the opposite hedge and succeeded in finding Phil Metcalfe just forward of the mid wicket boundary, who held on to the catch. Unfortunately, he dislocated his finger in the process, and had to leave the field to go to hospital. Our new Aussie import Liam replaced him in the outfield. In the next over, the 12th, bowled by birthday boy Connor, batsman Harvey hit a looping shot over mid off, where the agile Gaz Walters fell backwards to take a smart one handed catch. That was 59 for 2. In the next over, Luke took 10 runs from Corey including another 6 into the ploughed cornfield, and 2 more 6's off Connor's next to bring up his 50. Then he tapped the last ball to Ben Render at short 3rd man, and set off for a run. Ben gathered the ball cleanly, threw in to keeper Tiff's gloves and Captain Garcia was run out. Ben then came on to bowl the next over and found Mike Emmerson's stumps with his 2nd ball, 1 run having been added. Luke was in splendid batting form hitting shots all round the field, and shared a partnership of 25 with John Waud, which ended in the 17th over with the score on the dreaded nelson. Waud scooped a cover drive up in the air off Ben Render, and Connor running round at extra cover took a comfortable catch. The last over was bowled by Albert Ali, and the batsmen scampered singles and 2's to finish with a respectable 121 for 5. Luke Dixon carrying his bat for 76 not out.
Connor celebrating his 21st birthday was sent in to open with Corey, and the pair didn't waste any time getting at the opening bowlers. Harry Burton was hit for 18 off his 1st 2 overs and Duncan England went for 13 off his 2nd over. Connor tore into new bowler Captain Garcia smashing him for 4 consecutive boundaries with pulls and straight drives, and Corey took 5 off the same over, plus 2 wides. In the following overs, 12 was taken off England's 3rd over, and 19 off Graeme Harvey's 1st over. A 6 over mid wicket brought up Connor's 50, and the score had reached 87 after 7 overs. Next over and Luke Dixon conceded only 7 runs off his 1st over. Corey got in on the act with a 6 over the bottom hedge followed by a boundary off Harvey's 2nd over to bring up the century partnership. Only 17 more runs were needed with half the allotted overs still to bowl. The pair were scoring singles instead of boundaries. However, 1 attempted quick single in the 11th over cost Connor his wicket when he was run out for a swashbuckling 62. His brother Cameron was sent in, and he clipped a boundary off his legs to mid wicket in the next over, the 12th. It was left to him to clip the winning single in the 13th and this he duly obliged off the 1st ball to complete a memorable 9 wicket win.
This victory will be remembered for 3 players. Luke Dixon for the visitors constructed a masterful unbeaten innings of 76 without giving any chances. Connor celebrating his birthday with a powerful and dominant innings of 62, and Corey providing excellent support with his unbeaten knock of 41.
After the match, Connor dashed off for a celebratory meal with his family.
And so Seamer progress into the semi final of the Cayley Cup. After this display, whoever we get, we must fancy our chances!!
