Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Flixton 3rd XI on Fri 22 Jul 2016 at 6.15pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 9 wkts

Match report Flixton won the toss and elected to bat. Hax bowled the 1st ball to Pete Hill who patted it towards the gully area and set off for a run. Connor raced on to the ball, picked it up and shied at the bowler's stumps. Hit!! out! ....what a great start! It was 1 for 1 at the end of the over, and 2 for 1 after Beaver's 1st over. Marley Ward managed to work a 4 to square leg in the next over, and Beaver nearly claimed a wicket in his 2nd when Chamberlain lobbed the ball just over his head and out of reach. Ward then hit Hax for 6 over the square leg boundary in the 5th, and Chamberlain cut the ball through the vacant slip area to the 3rd man boundary in the 6th. The score had reached 24 for 1. The Hax then followed this with a wicket maiden during which Chamberlain tickled the ball into keeper Tiff's gloves. Their captain Chris Sample started to take charge taking boundaries and 2's off DJ and Josh Mac's opening overs and the score progressed to 52 for 2 after 12 overs. Next over, Sample was out after hitting the ball to Dallen at extra cover off DJ for 18. Singles were taken off all 6 balls of Josh Mac's 3rd over, the 14th, and DJ claimed his 2nd wicket in the 15th when the neutral umpire adjudged Marley Ward to be in front of his stumps. He had made 29 and the score was 64 for 4. Connor came on at the village end and with his 2nd ball, left hander John Ward got a tickle to keeper Tiff again. Corey came on at the pavilion end to bowl the 17th over, and got rid of big Tony Rudeforth who found Connor lurking in the gully again, taking the catch on his knees. That was 71 for 6. Connor bowled a maiden, and finished his next, the 20th with 2 more wickets. Harry Keary attempted a big hit into the deep and found the bucket hands of the Hax at long on. Next ball, Cameron Anderson drove through extra cover straight into the waiting hands of Gaz Walts, and Flixton finished on 76 for 8. Connor stole the show for us with 3 for 6 from 3 overs and a catch and a run out as well.
Corey and Tiff went out to bat in confident mood after their big partnership at the weekend. In the 2nd over, Anderson bowled 4 wides and both batsmen helped themselves to boundaries off edges, Corey inside to fine leg and Tiff to 3rd man. That was 16 for 0 after 2 overs and we were well on the way to chasing down this low Flixton total. James Stephenson replaced Anderson for the 4th, but another boundary was made and the batsmen ran a 3 off a no ball. In his next over, the 6th, both batsmen found the boundary, 1 off a no ball and the score had moved rapidly on to 47 for 0. Chamberlain came on to bowl the 7th over and Corey found the mid wicket boundary after 3 singles had been taken. Young leg spinner Frazer Ward came on to bowl the 8th, and Tiff swept him for 4 to long leg. But off the last ball of the over, Corey hit one up in the air, and John Ward took the catch at cover point. The partnership this time had made 59 runs, with Corey scoring 32. Next over and Tiff stroked Chamberlain twice to the mid wicket boundary, plus a wide took the score to 70. With only 7 runs needed, young Frazer helped us there with 4 wides, and it was Tiff who stroked the winning single for a comprehensive victory in under 10 overs. Tiff finishing with 31 not out, and a couple of singles for Phil.
This was an emphatic victory for our lads who were far superior all round. With 6 catches and a spectacular run out at the start, and with captain Tiff geeing the lads on, the bowlers did particularly well in restricting the visitors to a meagre score in this type of cricket. Our batsmen took charge from the outset, and Flixton were always on the back foot. Our reward for our sterling efforts is a trip to the hallowed turf of North Marine Road on Sunday 14th August with a noon start. Our opponents will be Kirkbymoorside, our nearest challengers for the league title. So c'mon ladies, if you've got any plans for that day; cancel them and let our boys bring back the trophies! UTS!
