Snainton v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI on Sat 29 Apr 2017 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Lost by 40 runs

Match report Stand in captain Hax won the toss and asked Snainton to bat on a dull day. Mike's Eyre and Kipling opened up against the Griff pace and Beaver seam/swing. Griff's first 6 overs went for 17, while Beaver produced remarkable figures of 5-3-5-2. His 4th over tempted Kipling into an uppish off drive which Phil comfortably took at mid off. His 5th over had Eyre trapped leg before, and the score 25 for 2 after 10 overs. Beaver continued his good spell with only 5 runs off his next 4 overs. Hax replaced Griff at the bottom end and Ben Norman despatched him twice to the mid wicket boundary off his 1st over. He then found the consistency in his next 3 overs to restrict the home batting to 6 runs. Meanwhile, the batsmen latched on to Beaver's 10th and 11th overs hitting 17 runs, including a pull for 6 to cow corner by Leigh Watson. Phil replaced him at the main road end and Watson pummelled him for 6 through extra cover off his 2nd over. Hax brought himself back on in the 27th over and immediately reaped double delight. First, he tempted Norman to hit skywards where Beaver running round from wide mid on pouched the catch, and 3 balls later pegged Carl Wilson's middle stump. That was 86 for 4. Corey who had been keeping wicket then swapped gloves with Griff to bowl the next over. Mike Davies edged his 6th ball through the slips for 4. Hax then shattered Davies's stumps in his next over. That was 92 for 5. Watson hit another 6, this time to long on in Corey's next over, and a 2 brought up the team's 100. Our timber tickler in waiting Jakey Moore came on to bowl the 33rd over, and after a 1st ball wide, Watson swept him to the long leg boundary and followed up with a single to bring him his 50. He was out 3 overs later when Corey cleaned him up going for another big hit. That was 125 for 6 in the 36th over. The innings soon folded after that. Firstly Jakey got rid of Chris Hunter and James Stockill with the first 2 balls of his 4th over, both having their bails dislodged in distinctive style. Next over, Phil picked up the ball at mid wicket and ran out Cook for 14 with his accurate throw to the keeper. The innings folded next over when Jakey had young Dan Hayward trapped leg before for a duck. The score of 133 was considered by some to be a good score under the conditions. Hax finished with 3 for 21 from 7 overs and Jake 3 for 11 from 4.3 overs.
Corey started confidently hitting Norman to the long leg boundary off the 2nd ball faced. Following a 2 off Watson's 1st ball, Corey went for a big hit, got a top edge and young Hunter safely pouched a catch at slip. Phil and Rob dug in stroking singles, but in the 8th over, Watson got them both. Firstly, Phil spooned a catch back to the bowler, quickly followed by Rob shuffling across his stumps and being adjudged leg before by our umpire. That was 22 for 3, which quickly became 22 for 4 when Griff went mental at a Norman seam ball and was cleaned up. Hax was batting solid and took 10 off Watson's next over. He swept Norman to the square leg boundary next over, but Beaver misjudged another seamer and also saw his stumps misplaced. Jakey came and went the over after that when he hit another Watson legger up in the air and the bowler running across towards mid wicket took another good catch. That was 40 for 6 and not looking good. But captain Hax was in confident mood and confidently scoring runs whilst Doc was standing firm and playing maidens. He did however slog a Kipling delivery to the long on boundary in the 17th over. Young Kyle Jackson had started off bowling 3 maidens, and with the 1st ball of his 4th over, got one to just clip the top of Doc's bails and he was gone for 8 at 59 for 7. That was also a maiden, and his next over got rid of James Greenwood, the ball hitting the wickets directly this time. Young Matty Walters came in, flailed at a few, and eventually top edged one back to bowler Watson after scoring a single. That was 67 for 9. Last man by choice Dabbs came in and looked solid blocking everything that came his way. Hax however began a personal crusade to try and gain some respectability and points for our team. He drove young Stockill twice to the boundary, one off a no ball. He got stuck into Watson's next over, the 28th, hitting the 1st ball for 6 over long on, followed by a 2 and 2 boundaries to mid wicket, the 1st bringing him his 50. He went for another big one off the last ball, but Norman at deep mid wicket took a spectacular low catch. He had played a captain's innings for 56 and the team were all out for 93, just 7 short of a batting point. For the home side, Watson had finished with match winning figures of 6 for 36 off 9 overs.
This was not the start Seamer were looking for. We were short in the batting department due to 1st team call ups, and an absent captain at a football match. We had the bowlers but their man of the match Leigh Watson outplayed us in every department. Hax played exceptionally well especially with the bat, but had little or no support from the rest of the team, as no-one else got into double figures. Let's hope for better things at Valley next week.
