Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Scarborough Rugby Club on Sat 01 Jul 2017 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 9 wkts

Match report Rugby Club won the toss and elected to bat on a nice sunny day but with a bit of a strong breeze blowing. DJ and Beaver opened our bowling, conceding a run apiece in the 1st couple of overs. In the 3rd over, former Cayton man Steve Roswald managed to deflect DJ’s 4th delivery on to the top of his stumps, and they were 2 for 1. Beaver followed with a maiden, and in the 5th over Joe Lenton steered a cut through the point area. Our fielder picked up the ball and threw in hard bypassing our keeper for 4 overthrows to add to the 2 runs scored. In the next over, Lenton drove a wide Beaver delivery straight into the hands of Captain Connor at point for a comfortable catch, and 11 for 2. A few singles had been added when DJ bowled his 5th over, the 9th. Martyn Brooks steered the 3rd delivery to the mid wicket boundary, but off the next delivery nicked a catch to keeper Dazzler and 20 for 3. That quickly became 20 for 4 when Ian Williams was cleaned up by another DJ inswinger. DJ then grabbed his 4th wicket in his next over when he rattled opener Amol Gaikwad’s stumps, and our visitors were in deep trouble at 23 for 5. Gaikwad had batted 41 minutes for 6 runs. Singles and 2’s were added in the next 3 overs, before Connor decided on a double bowling change. On came the Hax at the pavilion end conceding a 2 in his 1st over. Archie was introduced at the village end, and got a wicket with his 3rd delivery when Mark Kelly played an uppish square drive to deep point. DJ running in from the boundary held on to a low catch and it was 32 for 6. Next over and the Hax rocked George Elliott’s stumps with his 1st delivery, and 33 for 7. The over was a wicket maiden. 1 run was taken from Archie’s 2nd over and Hax bowled another maiden. Archie finished them off in the 20th over, his 3rd, when he held on to the return hit from Simon Norris from his 1st delivery. And last man Steven Clarkson top edged Archie’s 3rd delivery straight down the throat of our Jakey standing at slip. As they only had 10 men, they were all out for a meagre 35 runs. Archie finished once again with 3 wickets, this time for 3 runs from 2 overs and 3 balls. Earlier, DJ had figures of 4 for 18 from 7 overs. None of their batsmen got into double figures.
The captains decided on a quick turnaround, and Connor sent out the young pairing of Liam Love and Tommy Greenwood to open for us. Our youngsters started brightly scoring 8 runs off the 1st 2 overs, and after a maiden, another 4 runs were added by the end of the 4th over. Tommy then nicked a Gaikwad delivery into the hands at slip and it was 12 for 1, the over finishing as a maiden. In the 6th over young Liam confidently drove a 4 to long on, and followed up with a 3 into the deep at cover point. Next over and Dazzler clipped Gaikwad nicely off his legs to the shed at long leg for 4. That was 24 for 1. 2 overs later it was all over. Dazzler clipped another one off his legs to the shed, and Liam drove confidently through to the boundary at point, for 37 for 1, and a win by 9 wickets. Young Liam finished on 21 not out and Dazzler also unbeaten on 11. Tea was taken after the match.
With the team we had on paper, this result was never in doubt even from the moment Connor lost the toss. We were always going to skittle them out cheaply and knock off the runs quickly, even without Mr Griff who was doing his bit for the 1st team. For the 2nd week running, DJ and Archie starred with the ball, and Beaver was economical. We appear to have found another young player for the future in Liam, who also for the 2nd week running finished unbeaten at the crease. These are little jewels in our crown, and the future looks bright if we can keep them involved. Our lead at the top over Valley has increased to 9 points, and we firmly believe we can win every match. Only the rain can stop us. UTS!!
