Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Flamborough on Fri 16 Jun 2017 at 6.15pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 159 runs

Match report Connor won the toss and elected to bat on the far end strip. Openers Corey and Griff were sent out to give us a good start, and this they did with honours. Griff pummelled 2 offside drives in James Cobb’s 1st over and there was 11 on the board after 6 balls. Duncan England bowled a tidy 2nd over conceding just 1 run. Back came our boys in the 3rd over with a boundary each and 15 off the over. In England’s next over, Griff smacked 2 soft deliveries over the mid wicket boundary, and with singles and wides, we were 41 for 0 after that over. Graeme Harvey came on to bowl the 5th over and Corey launched a big assault with 22 runs from it including 2 sixes into the grass field at square leg and mid wicket. In the 6th over, England was similarly treated with Griff fiercely driving to long on for 4 and Corey punching to the mid wicket and extra cover boundaries. That was 78 for 0. The breakthrough for them came next over, Harvey’s 2nd, after Griff had pummelled a 6 wide of long on. 3 balls later, he attempted to sweep a straight ball and was cleaned up for a quick fire 42 in only 29 minutes. That brought Dallen to the crease. Corey swept Josh Garbutt’s 1st delivery to the square leg boundary in the 8th over. Dallen then scored a double brace of 2’s in the next couple of overs, and it was 100 for 1. Tighter bowling by Harvey and Garbutt resulted in only singles being taken after 2 more overs, with Corey reaching 50 from one of them. Jack Waud was given the chance to shine with the ball in the 13th over but conceded 4 wides in 3 deliveries before Corey smacked him for 6 into the bottom field at square leg. By the end of the over, it was 122 for 1. More singles were taken next over, and a 3 by Dallen took him to 17. However, he hit Garbutt’s last delivery into the air, and Harvey at deep mid on took a brilliant one handed low catch diving to his right to dismiss him. That was 130 for 2. 11 runs were taken from Waud’s next over, with Corey hitting him for 6 again into the bottom field. Cobb was brought back for the 16th over, and Corey creamed him to square leg for 4. Another 2 took the score to 150. In the 17th over, Corey cracked Garbutt for yet another boundary, before their young seamer forced a top edge off Corey’s bat into Mike Emmerson’s hands at short leg. Our teenage superstar had made an excellent 82 runs in just an hour and 6 minutes with an array of masterly executed shots, and the score had reached 155 for 3. Meanwhile, Phil had already settled in with a series of singles when Captain Connor joined him. Next over, the 18th, our Phil smoked 2 glorious cover drives to the boundary, after which it was 168 for 3. Waud’s last over, the 19th and Connor almost played a tennis shot to reach the mid wicket boundary, and followed it next ball with a big yahoo to the same area. From the last over bowled by England at the pavilion end, Connor went mental bludgeoning 24 runs. It went like this:- 6 left of shed, dot, 2, 6 into the car park at long off, 6 right of shed, and 4 to extra cover. The final tally was 203 for 3, and Connor had faced just 14 deliveries scoring 37 runs. Phil was unbeaten once again on 16.
There was a deep depression on the Flamborough faces as openers Emmerson and Harvey went out to bat. 2 singles were scored in DJ’s miscounted 7 ball over. Harvey tried to make a game of it in Beaver’s 1st over hitting boundaries to mid wicket and point. He then drove DJ straight for another boundary, and helped by 2 wides, the score after 3 overs was 19 for 0. Beaver then produced a wicket maiden pegging Harvey’s off stump, and another maiden followed in his next over, the 6th. In the 8th over, Emmerson hit Beaver to the boundary to move the score on to 34 for 1. But next ball he was run out. After nudging the ball just past our keeper, Emmerson set off to run but Waud sent him back. Griff meanwhile had picked up the ball and threw down the stumps before he could make his ground. 34 for 2 then became 34 for 3 next ball when Beaver knocked back Harry Thomas’s stumps for a golden. Young Archie was introduced next over, the 9th and reaped double delight with a wicket maiden. His 1st delivery bamboozled Waud hitting his sticks, and the 5th delivery forced Cobb out of his crease to be gleefully stumped by keeper Griff. 4 wickets had fallen without a run being scored. 2 maidens followed, one by Jake and another by Archie. In the 12th over, young Garbutt got a nick down to 3rd man for 4, before Archie’s 3rd over was another wicket maiden. It was 39 for 6 when Lee Thompson failed to spot Archie’s “wrong un” and was bowled for a 13 minute duck. Connor decided to give everyone a go with the ball, while Flamborough had given up and just wanted to occupy the crease as long as possible. Jimmy Greenwood bowled the 14th over and conceded just 3 wides. Doc then conceded 1 wide in the 15th over. Dallen was given an opportunity and the batsman played out a maiden. The 17th was a wicket maiden when Mel Dixon hit a Doc delivery in the air and Connor running round at wide mid on took a comfortable catch. That was 43 for 7. Further maidens were played out off Dallen and Corey, and the innings closed on 44 for 7. Archie had produced some magic with 3 overs 3 maidens 3 wickets.
Well done boys on an absolutely convincing victory in this quarter final tie. Corey and Griff set the tone with an 84 opening partnership and individual scores of 82 and 42 respectively. All the batsmen that went to the wicket contributed, and Connor’s 14 ball blitz was a joy to behold. Watch out top of the league Valley in the semi………we’re on fire!! UTS!!
