Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Forge Valley 2nd XI on Sun 09 Jul 2017 at 5.00pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 8 wkts

Match report On this sunny late Sunday afternoon, Valley won the toss and elected to bat. Openers John Flinton and Jamie Toal started cautiously in the 1st few overs against tight bowling by Beaver and DJ. In the 4th over bowled by DJ, Toal drove towards the cover boundary, where Connor gathered the ball and throwing back to the keeper, ran out Toal who was coming back for a 2nd run. That was 8 for 1. Dan Tomlinson came in to face the next delivery and was given out leg before moving across his stumps. James Fox then came in, hit a 2 off the next delivery before DJ cleaned him up the delivery after that. Suddenly it was 10 for 3. Gary Gibson hit Beaver for 4 to backward point in the 5th over, and Flinton drove DJ to the long on boundary in the 6th over. But off the last ball, Gibson hit an uppish cut into the hands of Connor at point and it was 22 for 4. Tyler Beck joined his captain, and together progressed the score mainly in singles with the odd 2 and helped by a number of wides. Connor and Hax came on for the 9th and 10th overs after which it was 38 for 4. Beck nicked an inside edge to 3rd man for 4 in the 11th, and Flinton then powered a 6 off Hax into the cabbage field at wide mid wicket in the 12th over. After this, Griff changed keeping gloves with Phil to allow him to bowl after the next over. Archie came on to bowl the 13th, and Flinton clipped him for 4 down to fine leg. 2 balls later, Beck drove him to the long off boundary, but was cleaned up next ball by Archie’s quicker one for 17. That was 64 for 5. Griff bowled the 14th over and after 2 singles were taken, Flinton got a nick on a rising delivery and new keeper Phil took the catch. He had made 27 and it was 66 for 6. Archie struck again next over when Luke Calvert latched on to a delivery hitting it straight to Dallen for a catch at deep mid wicket. That was 67 for 7. Jay Wilson attempted to hit Archie in his next over, the 17th but found the safe hands of captain Connor at deep mid on, and 72 for 8. It was a procession of Valley batsmen coming and going. Steven Boyes had been at the crease 16 minutes scoring 5 singles when Griff’s pace completely deceived him and knocked back his stumps, and 74 for 9. It was all over in the 19th when Archie got his 4th wicket. Steven’s son Danny got an edge and sub keeper Phil took an instinctive shoulder high catch to dismiss him. Valley were all out for 78 with Archie claiming 4 for 13, and DJ 3 for 18.
Connor and Griff got the board moving with 6 runs off each of Calvert and Beck’s 1st overs, both men hitting boundaries. But in the 3rd over, Connor powered the 1st Calvert delivery straight down the throat of Wilson at deep mid off and it was 12 for 1. After Phil was dropped at extra cover, Griff then powered a boundary to cow corner. In the 5th over, Griff steered a shot down to the 3rd man boundary, and the score was building in good time. He also had a life after the fielder at mid on dropped a skier. He made them pay with another power hit for 4 to cow corner in the 7th over, and it was 34 for 1 by the end of it. Young Danny Boyle came on to bowl the 10th over, and Griff immediately tore into him with 3 big hits for 6. The 1st sailed over the shed at long leg, the 2nd over the trees at mid wicket and the 3rd over the fielder at long on. Unfortunately off the last delivery, the ball rebounded off his back on to the stumps and he was out for 40 with the score on 59 for 2. Phil had been in the middle for 27 minutes steering a number of singles before he latched on to a Tomlinson delivery next over driving it through extra cover for 4. 2 balls later he got a leading edge through gully also for 4. In the 12th over, Boyle bowled a couple of wides, and after a couple of singles, Phil found the boundary again. It was 76 for 2, and only 3 runs were needed. Dallen finished it off with a cover drive to the boundary off Wilson, and another 8 wicket win was achieved.
The writing was on the wall for Valley when 3 wickets fell in only the 4th over. They were always up against it with the power of our bowlers, and the result was never in doubt after they were shot out for 78. The power of Griff must have completely demoralised them, and it was an easy victory in the end with 7 plus overs to spare.
And so it’s the Rugby Club in the final. Confidence is sky high, and after what we did to them 2 Saturdays ago, there can only be one outcome….surely…..a Seamer win! All will be revealed at Staxton on the 19th. Fill yer boots!!
