Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Lost by 10 wkts

Match report Seamer won the toss and decided to bat on an overcast day with no breeze. Following the early dismissal of Dallen in the 2nd over, bowled by Jordan Newton, a solid partnership developed between Captain Dazzler and Aussie recruit Collo. When Daz was stumped for 73 in the 30th over, the pair had put together a big partnership worth 141 runs. Daz's innings was a mixture of domination and aggression taking an hour and three quarters including 7 fours and 3 sixes. His 50 took 72 minutes. Collo meanwhile took a little longer to get started, but once the boundaries started flowing, he was never likely to stop. His innings was a mixture of power and determination, and he carried his bat from the 3rd over to the conclusion of the innings. His 50 took 82 minutes and his 100 took 2 hours and 25 minutes, and he hit 9 fours and 3 sixes. After Daz was dismissed, Archie came in and stoically defended under the captain's instructions, until he was clinically bowled trying to get the score moving for 9. His partnership with Collo was worth 42 runs, and after he was out, Collo and Hax put together a partnership worth 30 runs in less than 3 overs. Collo finished unbeaten on 109. The final score of 217 for 3 was excellent under the circumstances, and big enough to defend even with a man short.
Their captain sent in the maturing Les Welburn and promising 14 year old schoolboy George Baldwin. These 2 did not disappoint. After a slow start, the pair set about chasing the Seamer total with grit and determination. The shots young Baldwin compiled in his innings showed maturity beyond his years, and he never looked in trouble. Early on, he was outscoring his mature partner, and our flagging bowlers had no answer to making inroads into their batting. The pair put together an unbroken partnership of 219 to comfortably knock off the runs with over 5 overs to spare, though at one stage it looked like they would struggle. After 15 overs, they were 65, after 30 overs they were 145, and the acceleration came in the next 10 overs with 74 runs. Welburn completed his century in the 39th over taking 2 hours and 24 minutes, and Baldwin finished with 2 consecutive boundaries to win the match and 95 not out. Our most economical bowlers were Hax with 17 runs conceded from 5 overs, and young Tommy with 15 runs conceded also from 5 overs.
Has this big defeat dented our confidence? "We go again" says captain Dazzler. "We have the batsmen to make 200 every week so we should win more games than we lose" he says, and he's right. We must have 11 men to achieve this, so let's hope some of those absentees return to make their mark and push us forward. UTS!!
