Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Wykeham 2nd XI on Sat 26 May 2018 at 1.30pm
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 56 runs

Match report Captain Dazzler won the toss yet again and decided to bat on a superb batting track on another glorious sunny day. Going in with Dallen, the pair started cautiously putting on 17 in 9 overs. That's when Dallen had his leg stump removed by teenager Tom Owen for 5. Collo came, in hit a boundary, then succumbed to a Thompson legger, hitting his shot in the air to Dave Stockill at mid wicket. That was 23 for 2 in the 12th over. Josh B dropped from the 1st team found the boundary on 3 successive occasions, and together with Daz upped the tempo building a solid partnership worth 48 runs. It ended on 71 in the 22nd over when Daz on 38 top edged a straight drive to Pete Shepherdson at cover for a simple catch. Josh followed 3 overs later cutting Tom Owen to father Gary at point for 18. That was 79 for 4. Mayfield Rob stuck around for several overs poking singles and a couple of 2's. At the other end, Matty Sheads was in confident mood coolly stroking runs at roughly a run a minute. Rob was next to go in the 29th over when young Tom pegged him for 8 with the score on 98. With Sheads cracking a few boundaries, and Boo giving good support, the score advanced to 119 before Sheads got his leg in front of a Day chinaman. DJ joined Boo and the pair built a solid partnership. Boo was in good touch and confidently stroked a number of boundaries, a 3 and a some 2's. He had made 40 in the 43rd over when he misjudged a Sam Owen seamer and saw his stumps broken. That was 178 for 7, and the end of a 59 run partnership with DJ. 2 balls later and DJ was similarly cleaned up by Sam Owen for 19. Archie scored a single before he looped a drive up to Tom Owen at deep mid on off brother Sam in the last over. It was 181 for 9, which then became 181 all out as we were a man short. Brothers Tom with 3 for 28 and Sam with 3 for 20 were the pick of the Wykeham bowlers.
Openers Andy Shep and Dave Stockill found the going tough against accurate bowling from Beaver and Archie. It was 1 for 0 after 4 overs. Archie pegged Shep with a perfectly pitched legger in the 6th over, and Beaver pegged Stockill in the 11th over. The score was on 17 and Beaver had bowled 5 maidens in his 6 overs. Archie had only conceded 13 runs from his 6 overs when he had to be replaced by Collo. Pete Shepherdson and Tom Poor staged a recovery for Wykeham taking the score to 58 in the 22nd over. That's when Collo struck with 2 wickets in 3 balls. Firstly, young Poor skied one to Boo at deep mid wicket for 26. Then Captain Ian Thompson hit his 1st delivery straight back to Collo for a clean catch. Pete Shep and Sam Owen took the score to 76 before Shep hit Collo up to Beaver loitering in the covers for another clean catch. That was the wicket which turned the match heavily in Seamer's favour, and it could only be a matter of time before the innings was wrapped up. DJ cleaned up young Sam in the 27th over, and the returning Archie bowled father Richard Poor in the 28th. Both wickets fell with the score on 82. Father Gary Owen was putting up some resistance stroking a number of 2's with the odd boundary in for good measure. Unfortunately, his partners were having a torrid time. Josh B was brought into the attack, and with his 1st delivery cleaned up young Tom Owen. That was 90 for 8. Dan Bateson didn't last long. He hit Archie for 4, then next ball lofted a catch up to Rob L at mid wicket, and 101 for 9. Last man Steve Day and Gary Owen hung around for nearly 9 overs defying our bowlers with singles run at will and the odd boundary. It came to an end in the 41st over when the returning Beaver trapped father Gary leg before for 24. They were all out for 125 and Seamer had won by 56 runs. Beaver bowled 7 maidens in his 10 overs and 1 ball taking 2 for 16. Archie had 3 for 35 from his full allocation, and Collo with 3 for 29 from 8 overs.
This was the win Seamer had craved for after last week's poor display. It was a good all round team performance with plenty of commitment and perseverance. Captain Dazzler led the way early doors showing his 1st team expertise and class. Sheads has obviously benefitted from his "spa day" with a gutsy performance, but what is particularly pleasing is the rapid development of young Boo. His innings was mature from start to finish, and he was quite prepared to take their bowlers on, with great success. His partnership with DJ stretched Wykeham to their limits when they looked to be getting back in the game. Our bowlers also were on top of their game. Our wily veteran Beaver showed that age is no barrier to success bowling 7 maidens from 10 overs. Archie can always be counted on to ask questions of their batsmen, and Collo's variable leggers and googlys will cause problems for the opposition. DJ bowls a consistent line and length, and Josh tied up their tail. Fielding was tighter too. It's amazing what a couple of fresh faces can do to a team.
So we move on to next week and another home game against mid table opposition. Keep it going lads!! UTS!!
