Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Sewerby 2nd XI on Sat 02 Jun 2018 at 1.30pm
Match was Abandoned

Match report Seamer won the toss and put Sewerby in to bat on a damp track. The weather was light drizzle as the players took to the field. Openers Ian Dennis and 15 year old Dan Artley got off to a slow start with 7 runs coming from the first 6 overs. They then found their rhythm and upped the tempo building a solid start to reach the 50 partnership in the 17th over. During this time DJ and Beaver had bowled fairly tidy, and when Griff replaced Beaver, 2 of his first 3 overs were maidens. Unfortunately, the fielding had not been so good with both batsmen giving 2 good catching chances each which were put down. Collo replaced DJ and made the breakthrough in his 4th over, the 23rd when Captain Dennis holed out to DJ at deep mid off for 23. The partnership had made 70, and the drizzle had turned to light rain. Collo struck again in his next over when another legger drew Artley forward. Unfortunately for him, his back leg was off the ground and Dazzler stumped him for 44. That was 73 for 2. Griff bowled the next over and Mike Hirst hit him for 4. But next ball he scooped up to Boo at mid wicket for an easy catch and 77 for 3. Andy Smith and Craig Ward then put together a nice little partnership worth 36 runs in 10 overs. It ended in the 36th over when Griff smashed Ward's stumps for 14. Archie replaced Griff for the 38th over and got rid of Smith with his 3rd delivery when the batsman was adjudged leg before for 25. Unfortunately, the rain had got heavier, and with Smith on his way back to the pavilion, our fielders after consulting with the umpires made a hasty dash to put the covers on. The score was 122 for 5. We waited 45 minutes before tea was taken. After that, the captains decided to call the match off as the rain looked set for the rest of the day.
We had out our strongest batting line up of the season so far, and had the rain not intervened, I'm sure we would've knocked off the required runs in the allotted time. Fielding misdemeanours apart, what was encouraging was the way we fought back after their useful opening partnership. 70 for 0 became 77 for 3 and all the wickets to fall came in a 15 over spell. This should give us confidence going into our next tough away match. UTS!!
