Ebberston 1st XI v Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 1st XI on Sat 08 Jun 2019 at 13.30
Match was Abandoned

Match report Under overcast skies, Captain Chaddy won the toss and put Ebberston in to bat. It was a good choice as their openers were struggling to cope with our pace and the bounce in the pitch. Consequently, it wasn't long before wickets began to fall. With 2 wides on the board, Frankie Beal went for a quick single in the 2nd over and Liam's accurate throw from cover was gathered in by bowler Gary for a run out. The 4th over by Gary was a wicket maiden when he cleaned up their captain Jon Mason for another duck. That was 6 for 2. And Gary struck again in the 6th over when the umpire put his finger up for an lbw against Mike Horsley for yet another duck. 3 men out and all 7 runs scored were extras. There was controversy in the 7th over when Alex Machen drove Mitch to the long on boundary. From the pavilion, the ball appeared to touch the boundary rope, but fielder Gaz Walts threw the ball back in claimimg it hadn't. After consultation between umpire Gates and the scorers, Machin was awarded 3 runs. Mitch's next over, the 9th was a double wicket maiden. The 3rd ball shattered Cooper Barnes' stumps, and Ben Lockey top edged the 6th ball which keeper Rory caught low down diving forward. That was 17 for 5. The umpires then called the players off for persistent rain at 2.10pm. There was a long wait and an early tea was taken. Play resumed at 4.25pm with dark clouds towards Pickering threatening. Within 2 overs, the score had doubled as Joe Tyson hit out scoring a 6 and a 4 off Mitch. However next over, the 12th, Tyson hooked Gary into the waiting hands of Mitch down at fine leg for 13. 3 balls later and Machen's stumps were displaced. He had made 14 and they were in all sorts of trouble at 36 for 7. Jordan Welford came in and was comfortable stroking singles. Together with Eddie Swiers, they held out until the 16th over. That's when Swiers drove Gary solidly towards mid wicket, where Jenx reached above his head to take a superb one handed catch and they were 49 for 8. By the start of the 21st over bowled by Mitch, only 4 more runs had been added. Welford drove the 2nd ball to extra cover and Gary's throw at the bowler's end stumps ran him out going for a quick single. That was 53 for 9. In the same over, Damien Readman found the long off boundary. Gary didn't get a chance to complete his 12th over as the rain had started up again, and the captains and umpires shook hands to call an end to the game on 62 for 9. Gary had finished with 5 for 18 and Mitch 2 for 36.
Well the rain has spoilt what would have been Seamer's first win of the season. Unfortunately, it has to be against one of the bottom teams in the division. That's cricket as they say!! UTS!!
