Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Seamer & Irton CC 2nd XI v Pickering 3rd XI on Sat 04 May 2019 at 13.30
Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 93 runs

Match report In spite of rain interruptions and the distraction of the Tour de Yorkshire cyclists riding past nearby, Seamer managed a comprehensive win over their Ryedale opponents. Pickering won the toss and put us in to bat. The innings got off to a bright start with father and son combo Dave and Archie putting on 50 for the first wicket. Archie was bowled straight after the first rain interruption for 22. A 3rd wicket partnership between captain Dave and Sheads then added 46. It ended when Dave played on for 42. Sheads kept up the good work with a steady contribution of 32, and Hax weighed in with 19 in his half hour stay in the middle. 7 overs were lost in 3 rain interruptions, and Tuna finished the innings off bludgeoning 7 boundaries in a quick undefeated knock of 35. He and Beaver put on an unbroken last wicket partnership of 34 runs, taking the final score to 186 for 9. Their captain Tony Evans did his best to blunt proceedings taking 7 for 24 in 12 overs.
Pickering got off to a slow start and were always behind the required run rate thanks to the accuracy of our main bowlers. Opener Les Welburn made 100 on his last visit to our field, but Matty Walters accurate throw to the bowlers end from mid off had him back in the pavilion for a meagre 9 runs. The other top 3 batsmen all made it into the late teens. Despite knee problems, Beaver managed to knock back Paul Wilkie's stumps, and Archie accounted for Matty Shepherd who sent an easy catch to Hax at extra cover. Tom Greenwood chipped in with 2 middle order wickets, bowling one and getting a successful lbw appeal. The runs slowed down as Archie got among their tail enders with an lbw and 2 clean bowled. Dave chipped in with an lbw as well, but captain Evans stood firm blocking Dave's 4th over, the last, to force the incomplete win for us. They ended on 93 for 9 getting exactly half our runs. Archie's 12 overs earned him 4 for 21, another commendable effort, and Tom chipped in with 2 for 19 from 6 overs.
A great start for the Seamer boys. Let's hope there's more to follow. UTS!
