Seamer & Irton Cricket Club Won by 6 wkts

Match report Seamer won the toss and put Wold Newton in to bat on this sunny evening. Brothers Tom and Dave Southwell opened the batting and were soon in trouble. The first 5 Matty deliveries went for 6 runs, but the 6th delivery was spot on Dave's wicket and cleaned him up. Beaver bowled the 2nd over conceding 6 runs then was taken off with a knee injury. Matty struck again in his next over, the 3rd when captain Tom played a return catch back to him off the 3rd delivery. That was 14 for 2. Koppy Harrison and Simon Addison came together and pushed the score along to 30 after 7 overs. That was the end of Matty's spell taking 2 for 13 off 4 overs. The 10th over was Archie's 4th and he finished with a wicket when Addison went for a big hit and holed out to Boo at long on for 10. That was 44 for 3. Sheads bowled the 11th over, and new batsman James Knaggs clobbered him for 6 over mid wicket. That was after Sheads had bowled 4 wides and a no ball. With his next over, Sheads conceded 12 runs including boundaries for both batsmen. That took the score to 75 for 3. The next over, the 14th was bowled by Connor and he started with 3 dots. The 4th delivery pegged Koppy's middle stump and he departed for 29. That was 75 for 4. In Connor's next over, the 16th, Knaggs hit the ball towards cow corner, completed a run and set off back for a 2nd. Boo's throw back to the bowler was good and Knaggs was run out for 18. That was 85 for 5. Daz Hastie bowled the 17th over and claimed a wicket when Stuart Harrison got a nick into keeper Tiff's gloves. That made it 91 for 6. The last over was bowled by Connor and Newton were going for it, looking to post 100. It was not to be as 3 wickets fell in consecutive balls. Simon Moore was bowled off the 3rd delivery. Steve Ward was run out off the 4th delivery when Connor ran forward, picked up the ball, turned round and shied at the bowler's stumps. Jack Heslehurst mis-judged Matty's throw from near the shed back to the keeper and was run out off the 5th delivery. That made it 96 for 9, and a single from the last delivery meant Seamer were chasing 98 for victory. Connor finished with the same figures as Matty ie 2 for 13 from his 4 overs.
The weather had become cloudy and overcast as Archie and Connor took to the middle. Connor was soon wielding his bat after Archie's single with 4, 2 and 4. With 2 wides, Knaggs's 1st over went for 13 runs. Koppy bowled the 2nd over and Connor hit a couple of 2's. Following 2 more wides, Connor went for another big hit and saw his stumps re-arranged. He made 14 and it was 19 for 1. Archie scored most of the runs as he and Tiff took the score to 39 before the end of the 6th over. Koppy finished it with the wicket of Archie, pegging him for 18. Next over, the 7th and Knaggs got the all important wicket of Tiff who looked back surprised to see his stumps broken, and 40 for 3. Boo was looking in good touch hitting 4 boundaries in the next few overs to take the score to 62 for 3 after 10 overs. He continued the good work in the 11th over clouting Gordon Taylor for 2 sixes to long on and mid wicket. Unfortunately after a wide, he top edged the last delivery to Mark Holtby at point for a blistering 22 minute knock of 30. That made it 78 for 4, with 20 needed and 9 overs to get them. Hax and Sheads didn't need to rush, and were comfortable steering singles and the odd 2. They took the score to 96 for 4 after 14 overs. Simon Moore came on and bowled 2 wides to take us through to the next round with a 6 wicket victory in the gathering gloom.
This result was never really in any doubt once we had started the reply. Archie and Connor laid the foundations with the bat, Boo continued with his excellent quick knock, and Hax and Sheads were there at the end to see us home. Matty and Connor were the pick of the bowlers, and the fielding was good with 3 catches and 3 run outs. It's Cayton away in the semi final, and that's one we are all looking forward to I'm sure. UTS!!
